One of the fields of study we have heard the most in recent years is "data science". Data Scientist ranks first in many “future professions” research conducted abroad.
Data Science is a field that deals with the concepts of data analysis, data mining, artificial intelligence, machine learning, which we have started to talk about in recent years, and its main purpose is to make predictive models that will guide business decisions and to extract usable insights from big data. With each passing day, the importance of its output is increasing, more precisely, its importance is beginning to be understood in the increasingly difficult economic conditions and competitive environment, and with the help of technology, it becomes a constantly developing field in itself.
Data Science, which is based on Mathematics and Statistics sciences, combines these fields with computer and software science. There are very few institutions in our country that provide university education on this subject. I know that some leading universities intend to open relevant departments, I hope the number of these departments will increase in our country in a short time.
CRM is an important customer of data science as it is a function that manages sales and marketing actions that are fed by data. In a company that does not have a Data Science team, a team defined in a much simpler form as “customer data analysis” is often included in CRM. It is managed in this way in Turkey, even in the world. However, we all know that very large companies, such as Walmart and Amazon, have an independent Data Science team in their organizations. There are a few companies doing this in Turkey, but it seems that there are not many studies that we can show as successful outputs in this field. The biggest reasons for this are that concrete questions that can be solved with data science have not yet been revealed. For this, it is necessary to apply to Data Science to identify the problem with a business perspective and to solve it.
Not much, 5 years from now, we will see that these teams have been established in most corporate companies. Data Science and Data Scientists will be applied not only on sales and marketing areas, but also for increasing operational efficiency, managing inventory, planning logistics, and even managing employee turnover more efficiently.
